Prelim Evaluation A.K.A. The Pizza

Camera Shots

Shot-reverse shot – This shot was used when Tom had to make a phone call to the ‘Pizzeria’. This is so the viewer could see and hear the whole conversation over the phone, rather than just watching one person talk, the viewer is allowed to watch both characters have a conversation.

Match on action - In order to use Match on action, we had to film the same scene a few times from diffrent angles. As we were creating a fast paced action sequence Match on action was something that we had to include as the cuts are quite quick, and it gives the viewer the impression that the sequence is very fast paced because of these fast cuts.

Correct Framing - For the mid shots we used the rule of thirds. This is beacuse an unnatural shot looks more natural than a natural shot. I.E. the shot is more natural if the subject is in the left or right third of a shot. This also makes the subject look more interesting and keeps the viewer interested.

Camera Angles - We used a variety of angles for our prelim, from Low Angle to High Angle. During the free running scene the low angle shots were used to make the walls that were used to jump off and on to look bigger. The high angle shots were used partly because of where we wanted to shoot footage it was our only option due to the landscape, but also to give a bit of variety to the whole prelim.

Camera shots - For the phone call we used mainly mid shots and over the shoulder shots, as the conversation is not that interesting by having a lot of change in shots we can keep the viewer interested as their brain is kept active as they have to work to understand each shot. We did however throw in a couple of long range and some panning shots for the free running scene. We also had one or two tracking shots.

How does the Prelim Represent Diffrent social groups...

Gordano 6th form students are represented as being fun, energetic, creative and funny. This is shown throughout the whole prelim, at the begining when the Pizza Boy is first given the pizza we can clearly see that the Italian accent was put on for the laughs. The amount of ketchup used as fake blood was quite a creative thing to do, rather than making it realistic and only putting the ketchup in specific places, we squirted it all over the place and as the camera zoomed out you could see how well it worked. The free running scene shows that 6th form students are energetic as they spent the whole time running around, and did not spend much time inside a class room sitting at desks.

Audience

The audience for our prelim would be lower school students or other 6th form students of both genders who are interested in doing media in order to show the kind of things that they are likely to produce. By showing this prelim to lower school students it may also attract them to join the sixth form when they finish their GCSEs as it lets them have a look at the kind of things that Sixth form students get up to.

Address the Audience

The title of the film makes it very clear as to what it is about, and it sounds like a Prelim amatuer production as it has a very specific title, I.E. not much could really be interpretated out of it. The editing used in the prelim suggests that it is aimed at lower school students as the transaction between each shot is fast, there is no fade in fade out going on which would slow it down. The music used in the prelim also suggests that it is aimed at lower school students as almost all of them would have heard it before and be very familiar with it, where as if we had something that younger students did not regonise it would not be quite as appealing to them.

Have I learn't anything?

From the construction of this project I have learnt about many new and diffrent technologies. I have learn't how to use iMovie on a Mac and have also developed my skill of using a camera. I do however still prefer using Sony Vegas Pro as an editing software but learning how to use other editing software programmes is still useful.

My skill with a camera has developed as I have learnt how to use it more effectively using diffrent camera shots and angles and how to select the correct camera shot for the correct piece of footage.
